About
These pages give some unpublished papers and talks. For my journal articles, please look at the relevant journals.
I began as a cognitive psychologist interested in memory and discourse, but nowadays my research is mainly about alcohol, food, drugs and crime and I am more of a health and social psychologist. Amongst my research topics are:
Effects of sugar on mood and behaviour
Drugs, delinquency, adolescence and crime
Psychological effects of cannabis
Understanding why most people who used drugs DO NOT become addicted, yet some do.
Heavy episodic drinking
Modelling transient mood
Models of risk
Effects of drugs, foods and illness on cognitive function and well-being.
I supervise postgraduate students in substance use, addiction and health psychology. I direct an MSc module on Risk and Care Management and contribute to undergraduate modules on health, social and cognitive psychology. I also coordinate the final-year empirical dissertations.
Outside work, I have a young family which keeps me busy and my main hobby is music. I write and sing blues songs and more experimental and electronic material. I play guitar and harmonica. You can find me on last.fm and myspace.
