Review of Peter Winch's The Idea of a Social Science

This is an essay I wrote as an undergraduate in 1974

I put it up to show you young folks that essays used to happen with pen and paper!

His tutor who marked it is Roy Bhaskar, well known Critical Realist. Richard’s mother found this about 2004 and gave it back to Richard. He thinks it is of mild historical interest as a specimen of essay writing in the days of pen and paper. Perhaps it is still an example of good practice - Roy gave it 70%. Richard notes he rather liked philosophy because it was possible to write an essay simply by reading the relevant book and discussing it, rather than having to put in lots of references.
